FAQ

Q. Do your standpipe comply with backflow requirements?

Edwards Standpipes units incorporate a double check valve, which is a requirement for Risk Category 3 backflow specifications.

For a standpipe to comply with Risk Category 4/5 regulations you will require the addition of a breaktank to satisfy the backflow requirement.

Category 3 compliant Standpipes are listed below:

Q. Do I need any further connections or accessories?

Most of our range of standpipes are 'complete' (internally plumbed) units that only require connection to a mains water supply. However, to secure the standpipe you will need to buy padlocks seperately.

Q. How do I know whether I need 15mm (1/2") or 22mm (3/4") internals?

Depending on your flow requirements:

  • The 15mm (1/2") outlet will connect directly to a standard garden hose.
  • The 22mm (3/4") outlet is better suited to installations that require higher volume of flow.

Q. Is it possible to paint a stainless steel unit?

With our stainless steel range (ED2012, ED2034, PL12, PL34, NON12, TC22) we would strongly advise not to paint them. The paint will not bond with the surface of the stainless steel standpipe and will flake off.

Q. Is it possible to paint a galvanised unit?

We would also recommend against painting any galvanised unit (ICE34) as this can impact on the longevity and durabilty of the product. Edwards Engineering cannot be held accountable for any modifications made to the unit by the client.

We do not offer a painted option on our galvanised products.

Q. Can I install the iceberg unit flush to the ground?

For backflow requirements all standpipes require a double check valve. Law states that double check valves must be installed above ground level surface. For this reason the iceberg requires a profile of 150mm to be installed above the ground.

Q. We require taps without the hose union (no thread). Is this possible?

Currently all of our range (with the obvious exception of ICE34 and NON12) use threaded taps as standard. If you have a requirement whereby you need to prevent users attaching hosepipes we can offer different types of taps although these may cost more than the conventional models. Please contact us for details.
